Does the answer to this question seem to evade you? Do you feel overwhelmed just thinking about it? Let me ask you another question..
How do you climb a mountain?
The answer is obvious, right? You climb a mountain ONE STEP AT A TIME.
Do you ever look at your health journey and feel like you’re standing at the bottom of a big ole’ mountain? Does reaching your goals feel as big and scary as getting to the top of that summit?
What are the things going through your mind as you stand there looking at the trail ahead?
From where you stand you feel small, and the task ahead feels so BIG. At this point you can’t even see your destination, you can only see the trail. You have to go on total faith that THIS trail leads to the top.
You know it’s not going to be easy, and there might be rough terrain along the way. Perhaps you’ve tried this trail before and failed to complete it. Maybe you should turn around right here and walk away before you regret your decision…
This is exactly how your health journey often feels and it’s easy to focus on the end destination and feel totally overwhelmed. That journey seems too big and impossible when you’re focused on the entire mountain all at once. Whether the top of your mountain looks like losing 50+ pounds, or getting fit when you haven’t worked out in months or even years.
The most important tip to losing weight, feeling great, and reaching your goals is to take it one step at a time.
You have to break it down and focus on the smaller steps that will add up to long term habits and change.
3 Tips to Reaching Your Health Goals:
- There are NO shortcuts. If you’ve ever climbed a mountain for real, taking shortcuts can be dangerous and in the long run, may cost you more time and set backs. Extreme diets and deprivation might get you quick results, but at what cost? In the end, you usually end up back where you started because those habits are not sustainable as a lifestyle.
- Bring a Friend! When you’re hiking, having a friend, mentor or guide can make all the difference in keeping you motivated along the way. The same is true of your health journey. Getting a friend, coach, or trainer can keep you motivated and accountable as you forge ahead.
- Don’t give up! You are going to hit bumps in the road and there are times you will feel like progress is s-l-o-w, but progress is progress. You have to keep going and simply focus on taking each small step forward.
